pattern review

my new favorite thing to do is hit the 99-cent and $1.99 pattern sales. i've discovered there is just something about finding that perfect pattern and then actually wearing the finished product. it's almost as much fun as bargain shopping in my favorite store! i've collected a good number of patterns now, and will be making tops, skirts, and dresses for myself as i find time.

here is the first top i've made:

McCall's 6034, view B (shown in the blue)

and here's my shirt:

the size is right on, except the sleeves were a little too flowy for my style, so i cut them down by 2 inches.  i used a lavendar bamboo knit fabric that drapes very well.  there is enough room in the waist to actually wear this shirt as a maternity top, too, at least for the first few months of pregnancy.  the pattern instructions were super-easy to follow and the shirt turned out exactly the way i hoped it would (except for the sleeves, but i adjusted them.)

i'll probably soon attempt the sleeveless top (shown in the red.)

i give this pattern a definite "try it!"

kate's new outfit

i bought this skirt for kate last year at kohl's for only $2.60.  with a deal like that, who cares if the matching shirt did not come with it?

so i decided to make her a giraffe shirt to go along with it:

t-shirt testimonies

here are some examples of t-shirt "announcements" for babies/kids. of course, just about anything can be embroidered onto a t-shirt or onesie, but some of the more popular designs are those that can't be easily found for special events.

here are a couple of t-shirts announcing "I'm gonna be a Big Sister!" (try finding those in the stores!!)

other popular designs include:
"I'm 1 today!" (insert any age)
"I'm the Big Brother/Sister"
"I'm the Little Brother/Sister"
names and monograms
college team names: "I'm an FSU Baby!" or "Future Auburn Tiger", etc.

add polka dots, animals, swirls, or any other design for a custom look.
***just about any design you can think up can be embroidered.***

spring capri set

this set is so cute, i must do one for kate as well! the top is just a slimmed-down pillowcase top and the bottoms are a pattern that i had to modify quite a bit. so i ended up doing 2 pairs of pants (one according to directions, and one modified.)

vintage for babies

here's the latest top i've made using the "that darn cat" pattern for the round-neck top. i can't take credit for the fabric selection, but i'll say that i liked it so much i copied it from an order and made one for kate too. i'll be making more of these in the future, although they take much longer to make than the pillowcase style tops/dresses.
