my first applique

i have been wanting to try applique ever since i saw these cute letters online on someone else's project. i had absolutely no idea what applique was or what it entailed. i thought the letters actually came already cut out with material and ready-to-go! too bad it's not that easy. after researching some online, i was a little intimidated. so today i finally had a chance to sit down and do it and it actually didn't take long at all! and i love the results. this is a burp cloth gift for my high school friend's baby girl "Edie."

and then i thought this particular applique would be a great idea for a onesie or something too. when i did some looking around, i found this cute t-shirt someone made with the same lettering:

now isn't that adorable?? i think i am going to borrow that idea!
